Keep on Truckin' pg 01
This one was supposed to be in a Brazillian comics magazine called Front, but, thanks to reasons I can´t recall anymore, the publication never saw the light of the day. So here it is. It's seven pages long and I'll post one of them each week, every Tuesday.

This is part of the Puss in Boots' theatrical play scenario that's been currently performed in São Paulo. Real fun for kids and parents.

Illustration: Festeiro

I keep on reinventing covers for good CDs that has bad covers. The next victim is the second work from the band Matuto Moderno, Festeiro. Its cover (on the left) shows a photo of the band and a very bad use of Photoshop filters. As with "Florescê", from the last post, I did the sketch a long time ago but finished it just recently:

When I bought Florescê, I couldn't stop myself thinking that a different cover would better represent the nice songs crafted by luthier/teacher/10-string guitar player Braz da Viola. So I did a sketch and left it to be finished someday later. You all know the story: years passed by and the sketch did not see the promissed finishing....Untill now:

Illustration: Losers' Hotel

This one comes from a drawing made long ago, part of a small series of drawings and paintings called Losers' Hotel. Difficult (and different) times.
Below are the original art and one of the paintings.

Illustration: The first one of 2011

Some ideas we just sketch and set aside to finish later... and later never comes. Well, not this one. I did the sketch 15 years or so ago. It's called Artist's house in a rainy day and I did it when all my days were rainy days (snif). Good that this idea sees the light of the day in a better time.

This is from the book "Coisas pra fazer antes de crescer" ("Things to do before growing up") and refers to "learn to play a musical instrument... even if its a drum kit made of your mom's cookware".
This I have done before I grew up.

Cool blog: A journey round my skull

Will claims to have an "unhealthy book fetishism" and to be "a reader, collector, and amateur historian of forgotten literature". His blog displays illustrations from all around the world, mostly from the past and made by unknown or forgotten illustrators and designers.

New book: Coisas pra fazer antes de crescer

Another book written by James Misse, illustrated and designed by me. "Coisas pra fazer antes de crescer" ("Things to do before growing up") is a very light and fun reading for children.
My deadline was very, very tight. I've spent an unhealthy amount of time in front of the monitor to get all the 30 illustrations done just in time for the 21th Biennial Book Fair of São Paulo, but it was worth it.

Frankenstein Had To Cry Today

Many of my favorite bands are power trios (guitar + bass + drums). If it's good to listen to them, playing in a power trio is even better. I've played bass in a power trio by the end of 2008. We used to make instrumental versions of songs we liked to listen to and improvisations over any musical idea that anybody brought to the studio. Sometimes we got some pretty good results, sometimes not, but the vibe were always cool, often the best time of the week to everyone.
Our drummer moved away in the beggining of 2009 and the band came to an end, leaving me with lots of recorded jams and an unfinished recording session waiting for a decent mixing. Some weeks ago I finally finished the mixing and mastering of that recording session four songs and, since I was on the go, why not make this old-fashioned thing called CD cover to give a face to the whole packet?
I won't explain the cover image. Some of you may know the songs and will get it. If you don't, it's not important at all. You can download the songs and the cover here.

It's been more than two months since last time I posted here, I know. I had more eye-related problems AND I've been busy working on another book for children. Now that things are better I can give some attention to the blog again.
